Posted vacancy: Child Protection Officer

Location: Sana’a

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conduct assessments and interviews with children to determine their protection needs and best interests in the context of resettlement, Assisted Spontaneous Return (ASR), Voluntary Humanitarian Return (VHR), and case management.
• Conduct comprehensive case management for all identified cases of unaccompanied children, separated children, children at risk, and children with disabilities.
• Ensure that the child's consent and perspective are considered in decision-making processes.
• Collaborate with relevant stakeholders, such as social workers, psychologists, and legal professionals, to gather comprehensive information and conduct thorough assessments.
• Provide counseling and emotional support to children, addressing their trauma and promoting resilience.
• Monitor and evaluate the progress and outcomes of the case management interventions, making necessary adjustments as required.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records, ensuring confidentiality and data protection.
• Discuss new cases weekly with the Senior Child Protection Officer to make decisions on whether cases need BIP.
• Document and report the challenges faced during the implementation of the child protection activities in addition to the success stories.
• Keep close and good coordination with refugee communities, host community, UNHCR, UNHCR’s partners, and local authorities on child protection-related issues.
• Proper archiving of all related child protection documents of each case.
• Facilitating the enrolment of unaccompanied children, separated children, children at risk and children with disabilities to formal/non-formal education;
• Prepare child protection weekly report.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly plans.
• Prepare reports and documentation related to the child's assessment, best interests determination, and case management.
• Collaborate with other child protection officers and team members, sharing information, expertise, and best practices.
• Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and policies related to child protection.
• Participate in training and capacity-building activities to enhance knowledge and skills in child protection.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field. Master's degree is preferred.
• Proven experience in child protection, and case management, preferably in a refugee or humanitarian context.
• Fluency in English (written and spoken) is a mandatory requirement
• Knowledge of child protection principles, standards, and best practices.
• Familiarity with relevant international and national laws and policies related to child protection.
• Strong assessment and analytical skills, with the ability to determine the best interests of the child based on comprehensive evaluation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build rapport with children and their families.
• Empathy, sensitivity, and cultural awareness in working with diverse populations, including children from different backgrounds and traumas.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and establish effective partnerships with stakeholders.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in using computer systems and software applications for data management and reporting.
• Commitment to upholding the rights and well-being of children.
