Today, more than 4,500 people, including 3,500 national field staff and 300 international staff, work for HI in a wide range of contexts, implementing more than 400 projects in over 60 countries.</p><ol><li>Humanity & Inclusion in Sudan</li></ol><p>HI has initiated its programmatic response to the Sudan crisis in January 2024. Together with a Sudanese NGO, we provide physical and functional rehabilitation as well as mental health & psychosocial support in health centers and communities. HI is further leading disability inclusion mainstreaming at humanitarian coordination level.</p><p><br> </p><p>HI is scaling up its intervention in Sudan while expanding its programmatic and geographical scope, to respond to the catastrophic humanitarian crisis affecting Sudanese people.</p><ol><li>Role</li></ol><p>In collaboration with the Humanitarian Access and Safety Manager (HASM), the role of the Humanitarian Access and Safety Officeris to facilitate HI’s operations within Sudan. Mercy Corps’current areas of programming includefood security and livelihoods, WASH, health, nutrition, peace building and protection, resilience, and Market Systems Development.</p><p> </p><p>The EMPOWER programme is an European Commission-funded action implemented by Mercy Corps in consortium with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and local partners to support conflict- and displacement-affected young people aged 15–35 in nine target states (of which Mercy Corps will work in four (and potentially 5) states: South Darfur, Kassala, River Nile, and North and South Kordofan). The 42-month program started in January 2026, and will respond to Sudan’s protracted crisis by combining short-term income opportunities with pathways to longer-term economicrecovery, while strengthening protection and social cohesionfor youth, especially young women, internally displaced persons (IDPs),and youth with disabilities.</p><p> </p><p>Through an integrated approach, the EMPOWER programme will deliver labour-intensive, community-based public works and Cash for Work (CfW) activities that rehabilitate priority community assets and improve accessto services and markets, alongside market-relevant training, entrepreneurship support, and linkages to employment and financial services (including VSLAs).
