Leading the implementation of the protocols and epidemiological methodology, ensuring all related staff follows them in order to improve research efficiency. </li><li>Supervising, according to annual plan, the epidemiological research activity ensuring that contacts with community groups and authorities are aligned with the objectives of the research and that the population participating in the research is properly informed. Reporting on the progress of data collection, on ongoing analysis of research or on any issue causing delay, in order to achieve epidemiological goals on time.</li><li>Advising the MSF medical team on epidemiological matters that arise in the course of their activity research, and when necessary, designing and implementing epidemiological tools and data collection to meet new epidemiological needs. </li><li>Ensuring, in coordination with logistics department, that national or international shipment of laboratory samples acquired for research purposes is done within datelines and according to protocols, following security rules and keeping conditions needed for the sample </li><li>Supervising data filing procedures, ensuring that all epidemiology software tools are properly used and are updated regularly, in order to ensure full data traceability and availability </li><li>Planning and supervising, in close coordination with the HR department and the MSF vision, policies and values, the associated processes (job description, recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development and internal/external communication) of the epidemiological staff in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required, to improve staff technical capabilities, contribution and commitment to <strong>MSF</strong> values. </li><li>Supervising, in close coordination with the Logistic Manager that research equipment and materials are properly maintained and stock level is above minimum point in order to ensure availability and research activity continuity. </li><li>Participating in operational monthly reports and organizing and/or assisting medical staff in preparing epidemiological reports related to health facilities and to researched areas.</li></ul><p><strong>General Objective:</strong></p><p> </p><p>The Mission Epidemiologist Activity Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, and oversight of epidemiological activities across the mission. The role ensures the availability of high-quality data for operational decision-making, supports outbreak detection and response, strengthens surveillance systems, and contributes to evidence generation and capacity building in line with MSF principles.</p><p> </p><p><strong>1. S/he develops and maintains relevant external networks and contributes to strengthening the ICRC’s dialogue with authorities to promote respect for IHL and human rights and facilitate the ICRC’s acceptance and operational activities.</p><p>S/he may deputize for the Head of Legal Department when requested by Management.</p><p> </p><p><strong>REPORTS TO (ROLE)</strong></p><p> </p><p>Operational Legal Adviser </p><h4>Duties and responsibilities</h4><p><strong>YOUR ROLE</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><ul><li>Formulates and implements legal strategies aligned with the delegation's prevention vision, Regional Strategic Framework, and overall operational objectives.</li><li>Serves as the primary focal point for International Humanitarian Law (IHL) implementation in Sudan, advising on IHL, International Human Rights Law (IHRL), and domestic legal matters.</li><li>Continuously tracks socio-political developments, judicial decisions, national legislation, and oversight mechanisms to assess legal impacts on protection and operations.</li><li>Interacts directly with Sudanese authorities—including the judiciary, ministry advisors, and prosecutors—providing technical legal advice to advance IHL implementation.</li><li>Leads capacity-building initiatives and maintains partnerships with key actors, such as the National Committee for IHL (NCIHL), the Prosecution Office, and the Sudanese Red Crescent (SRCS).</li><li>Represents the ICRC at external events, positions the organization as an IHL reference, and maintains a strategic network of influential institutions and individuals.</li><li>Conducts IHL/IHRL training sessions and dissemination activities for specialized audiences, public stakeholders, and academic circles.</li><li>Produces legal analyses, working papers, and policy notes examining the relationship between IHL standards and the Sudanese domestic legal framework.</li><li>Participates in annual planning and budget monitoring, manages logistical arrangements for legal events, and supervises external legal consultancies.</li><li>Replaces the Head of Legal Department during absences—managing staff and budget oversight—and maintains IHL/IHRL promotional materials in coordination with the Communications team.</li></ul><h4>Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required</h4><p><strong>DESIRED PROFILE AND SKILLS</strong></p><p> </p><ul><li>Strongly motivated by humanitarian work</li><li>Able to work under pressure in a potentially dangerous environment</li></ul><p> </p><p> </p><p><strong>CERTIFICATIONS / EDUCATION REQUIRED</strong></p><p> </p><ul><li>University degree in law.</li><li>Master’s degree or specialization in law (including public international law, IHL or IHRL a strong asset).</li><li>Admitted to the bar / magistrate or PhD an advantage.</li><li>Fluent in English including legal drafting skills.
